EXERCISE: INSTALL AN SNMP AGENT INSTALL AN SNMP AGENT ON YOUR SYSTEM USE: • PORT NUMBER = 2161 • COMMUNITY STRING = IMM YOU MAY CHOOSE WHATEVER SNMP AGENT YOU LIKE CONSIDER POSSIBLE EVALUATION VERSIONS ONCE THE AGENT IS INSTALLED, ENTER IN TELETOP: • IP NUMBER • SECURITY NAME (IN CASE OF SNMPv3) • SECURITY KEYS (IN CASE OF SNMPv3) • ADDITIONAL INFO, IF NECESSARY (LIKE WHEN YOUR SYSTEM WILL BE SWITCH ON/OFF)

Exercise 4: Install an SNMP Agent

In this exercise you have to install an SNMP agent on your system. Although you are free to select the agent software you like, Net-SNMP will generally be a good choice. The agent should run on Port number 2161 (instead of the default 161), and use (read) community string IMM. Try to configure SNMPv3 as well.

After your agent is installed and running, enter into Blackboard your:

  • IP number
  • Security name (for SNMPv3)
  • Security keys (for SNMPv3)
  • If important, info such as when you agent will be active and when it will be switched off.

With this info, others will be able to monitor your agent as part of exercise 6.
