The University of Buffalo is still running a server containing an extensive list of pointers to enterprise specific MIB modules. Note that this server has not been updated for many years.

Companies can register their private MIB modules in the global MIB tree by contacting the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). A list of currently assigned enterprise subtrees is maintained by IANA. MIB module specifications are not collected on a central site so you usually have to contact your vendor to get access to the MIB definitions.

MIB modules are defined according to rules defined by the Structure of Management Information (SMI). The SMI is based on the 1988 version of ISO's Abstract Syntax Notation (ASN.1). The ASN.1 Homepage provides further information on ASN.1.
